Aim
To describe the physical changes of puberty in individuals using an objective method developed by Tanner to describe the maturation of secondary sexual characteristics.

Intended Learning Objectives
By the end of the session the delegates should be able to:

  1. Recognise the stages of puberty
  2. Utilise an objective assessment method
  3. Describe the maturation of secondary sexual characteristics


Abstract
Puberty is a rapid change to physical maturation involving hormonal and bodily changes that occur primarily during early adolescence.
It is a harmonious process and marked discrepancies from the normal sequence of events should lead to suspicion of pathology.
