Postgraduate Diploma in Endocrinology

Benefits of obtaining the diploma

There is a widespread concern, particularly among PhD examiners, that postgraduate students have a very limited understanding of the broader issues in endocrine research. Students are perceived to lack understanding of general mechanisms of endocrine regulation.  The diploma is also open to postdoctorates.

This diploma is designed to provide a stimulus to PhD students in the endocrine sciences to gain a broad endocrine education, and award of the diploma serves as recognition of that achievement. We intend that this diploma will serve as evidence of specialist training in Endocrinology.

The diploma has been approved by the Institute of Biology for the purposes of CPD.  This course may be counted as 30 CPD points if the applicant is registered on the Institute of Biology CPD Scheme.

Students undertaking the diploma are required to attend scientific meetings and demonstrate ‘active attendance’. They are also required to complete essay assignments from a range of set titles, which have been chosen to highlight specific issues or mechanisms in endocrinology.

We hope that you will enjoy working towards your diploma, and that it will give you confidence in approaching your PhD viva.
