Grants and Prizes

Conferences

The Society for Endocrinology, supported by the Clinical Endocrinology Trust, is pleased to offer grants to members of the Society to attend endocrine meetings. Subject to certain conditions, conference grants up to the value of £500 (£750 for an overseas meeting) can be awarded depending upon the number of applicants. The following notes are intended to assist applicants.

Applications will be considered three times a year. The deadlines for receipt of applications will be 15 April, 15 August and 15 December and we aim to notify you of our decision within 3 weeks of each deadline. Applications received after these dates will not be considered until the next due date. Please note that grants cannot be awarded retrospectively.

Deadlines

At the April deadline, we will consider applications for the US Endocrine Society meeting plus any other overseas meeting with an end date before 15 August.
At the August deadline, we will consider applications for overseas meetings with an end date before 15 December.
At the December deadline, we will consider applications for the SFE BES meeting plus any other overseas meeting with an end date before 15 April.

Please ensure that you apply at the correct deadline for the meeting you wish to attend.

  • All applicants must be in good standing with their membership subscriptions.
  • Full, Nurse or Associate Members may apply after being a member for one year.
  • Clinician-in-Training and Scientist-in-Training Members may apply after six months or, if the event is organised by the Society (SFE BES Meeting), members in these membership types may apply immediately. Applicants must earn less than 50,000 pounds pa (excluding London weighting) or be trainees not in receipt of any other funding. Trainees should seek funding from their own deaneries in the first instance.
  • At the present time, Council can award grants for members to travel to the Society's BES meeting and to overseas endocrine meetings from a member's country of residence.
  • Only one application for an overseas travel grant may be made in any calendar year.
  • If applying for a grant to attend another organisation's meeting, applicants must have:
    1. attended a recent SFE BES meeting (new members excepted)
    2. or had an article accepted for publication in one of the Society's journals in the last 12 months
  • Evidence of active participation by the presentation of material at the meeting will be required with the exception of the SFE BES Meeting.
  • The Society will not cover the cost of first class travel and it is assumed that applicants will endeavour to find out the least expensive travel and accommodation costs.
  • Grants are made as a contribution towards the total cost of attending the meeting. Applicants are encouraged to obtain additional funding from elsewhere.
  • Wherever possible monies will be paid into named institutional accounts. Applicants should state to which account the cheque should be made payable. Full bank account details are required for payments outside the UK.
  • As a condition of the award the applicant must:
For the SFE BES meeting - Attend all plenary lectures and complete a questionnaire providing details of posters visited.
For all other meetings - Attend all plenary lectures and complete a feedback questionnaire.
The questionnaire will be sent to you with your grant. In both cases, the completed questionnaire should be sent to the Business Office within 4 weeks of the meeting.
  • The Grants panel's decision is final. We regret no funds can be awarded if the form is incomplete.
