Grants and Prizes

Sponsored poster sessions

These grants are intended to support institutions wishing to host local poster sessions aimed specifically at supporting young researchers, clinical trainees and/or nurses.

The session will be advertised as TheSociety for Endocrinology Poster Session. Poster session organisers must agree to comply with the following requirements:

  • The session must be endocrine-related
  • The session is to be known as The Society for Endocrinology Poster Session
  • The Society will publicise the session to its members
  • At least one prize should be awarded preferably to a Young Endocrinologist (A Young Endocrinologist is defined as someone who is less than 35 years of age or less than 6 years post MD/PhD/MRCP). This should be a £100 prize and should be funded from the grant. The Society for Endocrinology will provide a certificate. The criteria and presentation of the prizes is the responsibility of the applicant/organiser who should inform the Society of the name of the recipient.
  • The institution must advertise the poster session regionally as well as within their own institute. Young scientists and clinicians should be especially encouraged to attend. The Society will send literature that should be displayed and distributed at the event and may also send a staff member, who may wish to address the delegates.

Eligibility

Applications will only be considered if submitted by a member of the Society for Endocrinology. Full Members may apply if they hold a minimum of one year’s membership. Clinicians in Training, Scientists in Training and Associate Members may apply if they hold a minimum of six months’ membership. It is anticipated that the applicant will normally be an academic or academic-related staff member. If not, a letter of support is required by the principal investigator or clinical team leader.

Value: Up to £3000 per grant

Conditions relating to the grant

  • Only applications submitted by a recognised Higher Education Research Institute and /or Medical Institution will be considered
  • The Society requires a short report from the applicant illustrating the success of the poster session. The report should include such details as how the event was publicised, the attendance and subjects covered. The report must be submitted to the Society no later than 1 month after the session
  • Funds awarded are final and do not include overheads
  • Grants cannot be awarded retrospectively
  • The decision of the Grants Panel is final and not subject to appeal
  • The Grants Panel will not accept resubmissions for the particular session
  • The successful applicants must recognise the award on their departmental website with a link to the Society website for a minimum of six months after receipt of the grant
  • The Society reserves the right to publish successful applicants’ final reports
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered
