Undergraduate Achievement Award

The Society for Endocrinology Undergraduate Achievement Awards have been established to encourage excellence in the study of endocrinology by undergraduate students.

Departments are invited to submit applications to the Society for an award to outstanding undergraduates. The award will consist of a £300/yr grant to the department (for three years), and a certificate from the Society to the award winner.

The grants will be awarded once per year. One grant will be available to a department in any three-year period. There will be up to twelve grants available each year, awarded to eligible departments on a first come first served basis.

Eligibility:

Applications will only be considered if submitted by a paid up member of the Society for Endocrinology. Full Members may apply if they hold a minimum of one year’s membership. It is anticipated that the applicant will normally be an academic or academic-related staff member. If not, a letter of support is required from the principal investigator or clinical team leader.

Value: £300/year for three years

Deadlines for 2010 are:

Opening deadline – 18 June
Closing deadline – 16 July

Conditions relating to the grant

  • The award will be granted for a specific endocrine-related piece of work, such as a project, essay or awarded to the top-scoring student for an exam piece
  • The award must be advertised by the department
  • Only applications submitted by a recognised Higher Education Research Institute and/or Medical Institution will be considered
  • Funds awarded are final
  • The Institution must inform the Society when the award is to be presented
  • Awards cannot be granted retrospectively
  • The decision is final and not subject to appeal
  • A short report is required at the end of the three years, reflecting the number and standard of entries and what the award money was used for, together with the number of eligible students each year.  Please note that, space allowing, reports may be published in The Endocrinologist and therefore need to be presented in an easy to read style.  Reports may be edited if space if an issue.
