Welcome
I am delighted to provide you with the details for the next annual
meeting of the Society for Endocrinology, taking place on 6 and 7 November
2006. We are marking the Diamond Jubilee of the Society for Endocrinology
with the Jubilee Medal Lecture by Steve Hillier and the Diamond Jubilee
logo. Four medal lectures will take place at this year’s meeting.
There will be nine symposia covering 'Novel regulation of orphan receptor
function', 'Sexual differentiation', 'Cell cell interactions in the
regulate of endocrine cell function', 'New frontiers in steroid hormone
metabolism', 'Thyroid at the beginning and end of life', 'AMPK systems',
'Controlling the overactive parathyroid', 'Adipocyte and insulin resistance'
and a nurses symposium 'Endocrinology of ageing'. There is also a debate
on biochemical monitoring of hydrocortisone replacement therapy in Addison's
disease and a session for young endocrinologists. As in previous meetings
there will also be oral communications and poster presentations. This
is the last November Meeting taking place in its current format. From
2007 the Society for Endocrinology BES will be the premier meeting taking
place each spring
The Society's annual dinner is always a highly enjoyable evening and
a great opportunity to socialise with your colleagues. This will take
place on Monday 6 November at the Copthorne Tara Hotel. This year will
be a black tie dinner and dance. This year's meeting offers a full and
stimulating programme for all and I look forward to seeing you in London
in November.
