PhD studentship, Imperial College London

11 Apr 2012

Via www.findaphd.com. A PhD studentship entitled 'How the brain controls metabolism: role of GLP-1 neurons in the regulation of insulin secretion' is available at Imperial College London.

Applications are invited for a three-year MRC-funded Research Technician/Part time PhD studentship to work in the Section of Cell Biology within the Faculty of Medicine of Imperial College London at the South Kensington Campus. Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1), is gut-derived hormone and a key regulator of pancreatic insulin secretion. Regulation of GLP-1 levels thus represent an important therapeutic strategy in type 2 diabetes. We have recently obtained evidence that GLP-1 also plays a critical role in the brain. This project will examine the impact of inactivating central GLP-1 expressing neurons on insulin secretion. State-of the art in vivo genetic manipulation and imaging approaches (including optogenomics) will be used.

The successful applicant will be joining an internationally-renowned research group, within one of the world’s top research universities. For further details and to apply for this position, click on the link below. The closing date for applications is 15 May 2012.
