Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and Metabolic Syndrome Special Interest
Group
Background
To engage and develop a forum for all of those clinical and basic scientists
working in the field of PCOS in the UK, in order to build a collaborative,
supportive scientific network. The Group is led by Professor Steve Atkin (Hull) and
Dr Harpal Randeva (Warwick).
Actions
Whilst the UK is well recognised for its basic and clinical research,
in the face of increasing funding difficulties it is hoped that a Specialist
Interest Group (SIG) in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome will provide further
stimulus and further opportunities for researchers to develop and foster
further collaborations in the UK. With a few notable exceptions, few centres
have the infrastructure to compete in the international arena consistently,
yet there is a wealth of expertise in the UK that could be harnessed.
