Delays in the availability of Dexamethasone

Chemidex Pharma Ltd have today informed us that the availability of Dexamethasone 500 mcgs tablets has been delayed because of further testing on stability. They hope to have stocks available to pharmacies by 27 November. See below for further details.

Following the class II drug alert issued by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) for the recall of batches of Dexamethasone 500 mcgs tablets (http://www.mhra.gov.uk/Publications/Safetywarnings/DrugAlerts/CON054733), Chemidex Pharma Ltd have informed us that they expect fresh stocks to be distributed to pharmacies during the week of 2 November 2009.

Dexamethasone 500mcgs: licensed and available

Dexamethasone tablets 500 mcg in packs of 28 are now licensed and available from Wednesday 4th March 2009; Chemidex Pharma Ltd say that supplies will be with mainline wholesalers by Friday 6th March. See attached for summary of product characteristics (pdf) (61kb).
The success in ensuring the continued supply of the 500mcg tablets was the result of discussions that the Department of Health, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency and the NHS Purchasing and Supply Agency NHS had held with a range of relevant parties including the Society for Endocrinology.
