Awards and Prizes

Over 20 awards and prizes will be presented at SfE BES 2018 for excellence across clinical and basic science. These will be recognised at the SfE BES 2018 Awards Ceremony.

Early Career Prize Lectures

The Society awards two Early Career Prize Lectureships, one basic science and one clinical Prize Lecture. Each winner receives an honorarium of £750. 

Early Career Prizes

Oral communications:

The two top-scoring oral communications by Early Career Endocrinologists will each receive £500, with £100 for those which are highly commended. 

Posters:

The 30 highest scoring posters authored by Early Career Endocrinologists will be judged at the conference. The top-scoring basic science and clinical posters will each receive £500, with £100 for eight highly commended posters.

Junior Poster Prize

SfE BES 2018 will feature a dedicated Junior Poster Prize, designed specifically to showcase the talents of our Student Members

Clinical Cases Poster Prize

This prize is provided by the Society for Endocrinology in association with Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism Case Reports. The winner will be awarded £200 and will be entitled to publish their case for free in the open-access resource EDM Case Reports, which publishes insightful case reports in all areas of clinical endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism (standard publication charge £475).

*The winning case report will be subject to peer review, therefore ultimate publication cannot be guaranteed.

Journal Awards 2018

The Society for Endocrinology Journal Awards will be given at SfE BES 2018 to the authors of papers of the highest standard published in the Journal of Endocrinology, Journal of Molecular Endocrinology, Endocrine-Related Cancer, Clinical Endocrinology and Endocrine Connections.

Selection will be made by the SfE Journal Editorial Boards followed by ratification by the Chair of the Publications Committee. One award will be made per journal.

A nominated author from each group will receive their certificate at the SfE BES 2018 conference dinner.

AMEND AMEND Young Investigator Award

AMEND Young Investigator Award

This award is run by AMEND in association with the Society for Endocrinology. The first author of the highest scoring abstract in the ‘Neoplasia, cancer and late effects’ category will receive a £200 honorarium and certificate. Criteria for eligibility are as follows:

  • Any doctor, nurse or healthcare professional in training
  • Must be a UK citizen or the research must have primarily taken place in the UK
  • Abstracts must be on the subject of the combined or individual conditions associated with MEN1, MEN2a, MEN2b or FMTC.

The winning abstract author may be required to present their work at the AMEND Annual Patient Information Day in 2019. If this is the case, travel expenses will be reimbursed by AMEND in accordance with the AMEND expenses policy.

 Annette Louise Seal Memorial Award

The Addison’s Disease Self Help Group offers an annual nursing prize. The winner will receive a £500 award for the abstract submitted which best advances the clinical management of steroid replacement therapy or adrenal insufficiency, and where the first author is a nurse. Abstracts may cover any aspect of adrenal crisis prevention and treatment, the management and monitoring of steroid replacement therapy or associated patient education.

The winner of the Annette Louise Seal Memorial Award will be announced after the abstracts have been reviewed in July 2018.

British Thyroid Association  British Thyroid Association Award

The British Thyroid Association will present an award to a researcher who submits a high-scoring abstract in the ‘Thyroid’ category, where the first author is under 35.

Clinical Endocrinology Trust Clinical Endocrinology Trust Prizes

The Clinical Endocrinology Trust is an independent body that utilises profits from the publication of Clinical Endocrinology to support the development of endocrinology and the education of students and specialists. The Trust is generously funding:

Two £500 prizes for the best submitted clinical and basic science abstracts.

One £250 prize for the best submitted nursing practice abstract, where a nurse is the first author.
