Prostate Action Research Internship

22 Mar 2011

Prostate Action are looking for a research intern to help with their grant applications. The internship provides a rare opportunity to see how a charity that funds medical research chooses the research projects it supports. Annually, Prostate Action receives up to 10 times more research proposals than it can afford to fund. A rigorous process of internal and external peer review is employed to identify the top 10-15% representing the highest quality research with the most potential benefit for men affected by prostate disease. You will be an essential part of this process, liaising with prostate disease researchers all over the world and with the Prostate Action Scientific Committee to obtain expert opinions on each proposal.

Guided by the Chief Executive, this role will offer considerable training in project management, which will help you deliver a large and complex grant round to tight timelines. There will also be some opportunity to take formal training, in-house or with the Association of Medical Research Charities, on aspects of project management and medical research funding. You will have a science degree as a minimum qualification and have a good understanding of medical research. Knowledge of prostate disease would be a distinct advantage. The salary for this role will be £20,000pa pro rata for an initial period of nine months.

For informal enquiries please contact Emma Malcolm via email at: [email protected]. Applications for this role should be submitted by email to: [email protected]. The closing date for applications is 30 April 2011.
