New EURO-Rare Diabetes project will create registry for rare diabetes syndromes

04 Feb 2011

The EURO-Rare Diabetes project is a newly launched project that will create a rare diseases registry for Wolfram, Alstrom and Bardet Biedl, rare glucose intolerance syndromes. Funded by the EU Directorate General for Health and Consumers (DG Sanco) for 36 months, the project is based in the UK. Funded partner countries include Estonia, France, Italy, Poland, and Spain. Other collaborating partners are located in Denmark, Germany, Japan, Romania, and the USA.

Long term studies on these syndromes are desperately needed to understand their natural history, to relate genetic diagnosis to predicting outcomes, to establish a basis for evidence-based management, and to develop new treatments.

Any health professionals caring for patients with one of these syndromes, as well as affected patients or family members, are urged to contact the project leader directly by email ([email protected]) or via the project website (link below).
