The Society for Endocrinology is pleased to inform you that reforms to the UK's defamation laws are currently in progress.

On 9 July 2010 Lord Lester of Herne Hill's Defamation Bill received a second reading in the House of Lords. The Bill's intentions are to bring UK defamation law - which is being widely criticised for its chilling effect on academic debate - into line with modern means of communication.

This represents a serious commitment by the UK Government to amend what is a drastically outdated set of laws, and is welcomed by all those who signed the petition at the Libel Reform Campaign. You can read more about the Bill, and sign the Libel Reform Campaign petition, at the link below.
