Two posters presented at the SfE BES 2010 conference highlight the importance of patient education and self-sufficiency in the management of steroid dependence, and were awarded the ADSHG Annette Louise Seal memorial award: Poster 340 - Sue Stewart et al., Steroid replacement: an unusual alternative to oral therapy via 24-h s.c. infusion device (winner) and Poster 331 - Jean Munday et al., Group education improves patient confidence in managing steroid sick day rules (runner-up).
Jean Munday also provided an article on the benefit of educating steroid-dependent patients in the self-management of adrenal crises to the ADSHG June newsletter. The ADSHG are happy to send a page PDF with Jean Munday's article free of charge to all SfE members who contact: newsletter@addisons.org.uk. Those involved in the management of steroid-dependent patients may find ideas from her work useful in their own clinics.
