Colomiere et al. have used western blotting and quantitative reverse transcription PCR to profile the insulin-signaling pathway in patients with gestational diabetes mellitus. Diabetes and obesity in pregnancy were found to cause defects in insulin-signaling pathways in adipose tissue and skeletal muscle.
