A study into three types of endocrine-disrupting chemicals conducted at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, has suggested that these chemicals may play a role in lowering the age of puberty in girls. The study found weak associations between the urine concentration of phthalates, phenols and phytoestrogens and the average age of onset of puberty in a study of over 1000 American girls.
