Diabetes Nurse Specialist, Brighton

A part time (15 hours per week) Band 6 post for a Diabetes Nurse Specialist (Type 1 diabetes) is available within Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trusts. This position provides an opportunity for an experienced nurse in diabetes to address the challenges of Type 1 diabetes. The post holder will be responsible for the setting-up of, and ongoing management of a two year clinical project targeting those with poorly controlled Type 1 diabetes, with view to intensifying management. These individuals are currently treated with twice daily insulin regimens. The post holder will: Facilitate self-care; Assist the patient to acquire new knowledge and skills; Enable the patient to make informed choices and facilitate self-directed behaviour change; Review insulin treatment with view to transferring to a basal/bolus regimen; Share experiences with local and national colleagues (publish paper of experiences).
