An MRes/PhD entitled "Analysis of Dynamic Interactions Between Anti- and Pro-Inflammatory NF-κB Proteins in Single Cells" is offered by the Institute of Cellular Medicine and Institute for Ageing and Health at Newcastle University. Funded by the MRC and BBSRC, the successful applicant will register for an MRes Medical and Molecular Biosciences followed by a three-year PhD. The successful applicant will work on a research programme that will use novel live-imaging techniques to investigate molecular mechanisms involved in inflammation. During the first year of this project, the emphasis is on acquiring research skills across a broad range of bioscience topics. In years two to four, the student will undertake the PhD project investigating the molecular mechanisms involved in inflammation. The student will receive training in a wide breadth of technologies including basic molecular and cell biology (vector construction, transfections, western blotting etc), confocal microscopy and the BiFC assay, statistical treatment of data, experimental planning/design and systems biology (mathematical modelling of protein-protein interactions).
