Patient Support Grants
The Society for Endocrinology is Britain's national charity promoting education of the public in all aspects of endocrinology. As well as educating scientists and doctors, we take an active interest in the welfare of patients with endocrine conditions, and ensuring that those who support them have access to good training and information.
The Society has made an amount of money available for a series of grants to assist small charities and patient support groups who work with endocrine-related conditions. We are now inviting proposals from patient groups for these awards. The maximum amount that any one group can apply for is £4000.
To be considered for an award, any body will have to fulfil the following conditions:
The organisation must have:
- A clear endocrine remit; must be actively catering for patients with endocrine conditions
- Must be providing patient support and information in the UK
- Less than 8 full time staff (or equivalent)
- Evidence of a constitution and, where practical, charity registration. New organisations should supply details of their plans to set up a constitution and, if appropriate, to apply for charitable status
- Evidence of good practice, particularly as regards training and quality control
- Good productivity in terms of the type and quantity of support provided compared to the size of the organisation
- Evidence that the organisation could not otherwise afford the project
The project:
- A clear endocrine focus
- A focus on information and education
- Direct patient benefit
- Evidence that the project would benefit a good proportion of the potential membership/client base
- Preference will be given to projects that have a good lifespan, e.g. information leaflets
- Well focused with full detail, both as to the content of the project and the costing. Vague or diffuse projects will be unlikely to succeed
As examples, a group may apply for an award for:
- Purchase of a piece of equipment
- Financing a specific project within the relevant time period
- Staff training
- Infrastructure costs
Closing date for applications: 5pm, Friday 30 May 2008
Conditions relating to the grant:
- Incomplete applications will not be considered
- The decision is final and not subject to appeals
- A short report is required on the expenditure of the grant and how this expenditure fulfilled stated goals
- Applications that do not fulfil all the criteria in section 1 will not be considered
- Awards cannot be granted retrospectively
- The Society reserves the right to publish successful applicants’ final reports
- The successful applicants must recognise the award on their website with a link to the Society website for a minimum of six months after receipt of the grant
- We are very sorry, but in the event of your application being unsuccessful, we are unable to provide feedback
