Welcome
It is our pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all delegates to the
Society for Endocrinology BES 2007 in Birmingham. This is the inaugural
meeting of our Society's new meeting schedule. We aim to bring
all of the best parts of the old Spring and Autumn meetings together
into one annual meeting which features the best of basic science,
translational research, clinical investigation and clinical practice.
Eight plenary lectures will take place at this year's meeting, five
of which being Society for Endocrinology medal lectures. There will
be nine symposia covering 'Transdifferentiation in the endocrine system',
'Thyroid and autoimmunity', 'Endocrinology of senescence', 'Endocrine
stem cells', 'Novel endocrine consequences of stress', 'Vitamin D -
new perspectives', 'Animal disease, paradigm for human conditions',
'Aspects of cardiovascular risk management in diabetes' and 'New biology
of bone: therapeutic implications'. There is also a clinical debate
entitled 'This house believes that all patients with sub-clinical thyrotoxicosis
should be treated'. Other sessions include Clinical Management Workshops,
Review Lectures, Meet the Expert sessions and Nurse sessions.
Many prizes are available for young endocrinologists, including the
top scoring basic science and clinical abstract in each category.
The meeting will feature both oral communications and poster presentations.
Prizes will be available for the two highest scoring posters in each
abstract category as well as the two highest scoring oral communications.
We look forward to welcoming you to Birmingham.
