I would like to become a member of the Society for Endocrinology – how do I join?
Please download an application form from the application page or contact the Membership Administrator.
Am I eligible for Clinician-in-Training, Scientist-in-Training, Nurse or Associate Membership?
- Anyone who earns less than a specified figure, currently set at £25,000 (excluding London weighting) can apply for Associate Membership.
- Anyone who has not yet completed their clinical training can apply for Clinician-in-Training Membership
- Anyone who has not yet achieved a PhD or is less than 6 years post PhD can apply for Scientist-in-Training Membership
- Anyone who is a nurse working in an endocrine-related field can apply for Nurse Membership
- If none of the above apply, you will be a Full Member

How do I find out my membership number?
This can be found on every postal mailing we send you and most emails that you receive from the Society or by logging in to the members secure area. New members may request their membership number from the Membership Administrator
How many members are there?
There are 1800 members, 75% of whom are based in the UK.
I used to be a member how do I rejoin?
Please contact the Membership Administrator.
What is the subscription year?
Payment is due upon application and the subscription year runs from
1 January to 31 December each year. If you join between 1 September
and 31 December in any year, your payment also covers the following
year’s subscription.
I haven’t received my journal, what should I do?

How can I contact other members of the Society?
An online searchable Membership Directory is available in the members' secure area, accessed via the members' log-in on the home page.
Can I pay my subscription and make changes to my membership record
online?
You may edit your details and pay on-line via the members’ secure area which is accessed from the log-in box on the home page.

What do I do if I do not know anyone to propose my application
for membership?
All new members must be proposed by a paid up existing member. If
you do not know an existing member, the Society’s General Secretary
can propose you if necessary. However, in order to do this, we require
a copy of your CV and a letter from your Head of Department, on institutional
letterhead, confirming that you are a bona fide member of an endocrine
or related department.
What is a Young Endocrinologist?
A Young Endocrinologist is a person who is either pre- or less than 6 years post-PhD (a Scientist-in-Training Member) or someone who has not completed their clinical training (a Clinician-in-Training Member). There is no membership category of ‘Young Endocrinologist’.
I am a member and would like to attend the SFE BES meeting or an overseas meeting; am I entitled to a conference grant?
You are eligible to apply for a conference grant if you earn less than £50,000 per year subject to the following conditions:
You have been a Full, Nurse or Associate Member of the Society for at least 12 months
OR
You have been a Clinician-in-Training Member or a Scientist-in-Training Member for at least 6 months (SFE BES excepted)
In all cases, if you are applying for a grant to attend a meeting other than the SFE BES meeting, you you need to have attended a recent SFE BES meeting or had an article accepted for publication in one of the Society’s journals in the previous 18 months (new members excepted)
Unless the grant is to attend the SFE BES meeting, you need to provide evidence of acceptance of an abstract at the meeting you are planning on attending.
When are the conference grant deadlines?
There are three deadlines per year: 15 April, 15 August, 15 December. For the SFE BES meeting, please apply at the December deadline; for the US Endocrine Society meeting, please apply at the April deadline.
Am I eligible for an SFE BES free place?
A limited number of free places are available for trainee scientists, clinicians and nurses who have not yet chosen endocrinology as their specialty. Successful applicants receive a complimentary meeting package worth up to a maximum of £750, which includes registration fees, accommodation for the duration of the meeting, and the reimbursement of economy-class travel expenses.
Members of the Society are not eligible for this prize, as they are deemed to have already chosen endocrinology as their specialty.
