Society for Endocrinology - a world-leading authority on hormones

ICE History - Part Three

04 May 2012

Today is our last look back through the history pages of ICE, charting the growth of the Society and endocrinology internationally. Today, we examine from 1996 until the present day.

ICE 1996, San Francisco, USA: The 10th anniversary of this prestigious global gathering was held in collaboration with The Endocrine Society in June in San Francisco, USA.

ICE 2000, Sydney, Australia: Following the Olympic Games, this Congress was hosted at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre in the Millennium year and attracted 3300 registrants from 75 countries.

ICE 2004, Lisbon, Portugal: The football fans in Lisbon for the Euro 2004 tournament had departed and were replaced with over 3200 endocrinologists attending this meeting at the Lisbon Congress Centre. A comprehensive programme of plenary lectures, symposia, oral communications, ‘meet the professor’ workshops and poster sessions made for a most fruitful congress.

ICE 2008, Brazil: This well attended and lively meeting presented cutting edge clinical and basic science of current interest to all those involved in endocrine care and discovery in the bright and exciting milieu of a Rio Springtime.

ICE 2010, Japan: This was the first new style ICE meeting under the revised statutes of the ISE. The Japan Endocrine Society organised an outstanding Congress that brought together over 5,000 leading endocrinologists from around the world. The Congress was honoured to welcome the Emperor and Empress of Japan to the Opening Ceremony!

ICE/ECE 2012, Florence, Italy: This prestigious joint meeting with our regional partners, the European Society of Endocrinology, is taking place in the unique setting of the Fortezza da Basso, a masterpiece of the military Renaissance in the centre of Florence, Italy. With a challenging and stimulating programme, a concentration of colleagues and friends and of course, the high quality Italian and food and wine, this will be a memorable Congress! We hope you are all enjoying it so far!
