Outpatient guidance for endocrinology teams now added to GIRFT advice pack

NHS England’s Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) and Outpatient Recovery and Transformation (OPRT) programmes have added advice for endocrinology teams to their guidance highlighting actions for tackling demand for outpatient appointments.

The guidance pulls together a concise summary of available advice which can help to reduce long waits for appointments and improve patient care.

Endocrinology is now included in an updated version of the GIRFT/OPRT Clinically-led specialty outpatient guidance, which was originally shared in 2022 to focus on the surgical and medical specialties with the highest number of +78 week waits. The guide also offers a support focus on common themes and challenges in the outpatient department, such as remote consultation, reducing DNAs, and driving patient initiated follow-up (PIFU).

Endocrinology also has its own individual guide, found here.

Information for rheumatology has also now been added, taking the number of featured specialties in the guidance to 17: cardiology, dermatology, diabetes, endocrinology, ENT, gastroenterology, general surgery, geriatric medicine, gynaecology, neurology, ophthalmology, oral maxillofacial surgery, orthopaedics, respiratory/sleep medicine, rheumatology, spinal surgery and spinal pain, and urology.
