Weight loss therapies including bariatric surgery on bone health
Join Preeshila Behary for a free webinar available exclusively for SfE members.
Date: Wednesday 1 July 2026
Time: 16:00-17:00
Weight loss improves metabolic health, but its effects on bone are complex and intervention specific. Obesity is traditionally viewed as protective for bone, yet fracture risk in people with obesity is also complex and site specific.
This talk reviews the evidence linking lifestyle interventions, bariatric surgery and GLP 1–based therapies with changes in bone density, turnover and fracture risk, highlighting key clinical implications and areas of uncertainty relevant to everyday endocrine practice.
The speaker is Preeshila Behary.
Dr Preeshila Behary is a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London, with a specialist interest in metabolic bone disease and obesity. Her research explores the complex interplay between bariatric surgery, obesity, gut hormones and bone metabolism.
The session will be chaired by Tricia Tan, Mark Turner, and David Hope.
The Society for Endocrinology is pleased to offer these webinars free of charge to Society members.
