Society for Endocrinology - a world-leading authority on hormones

Two Society members elected Fellows of the Royal Society!

08 May 2017

We are thrilled to announce that two of our members, Professor Stafford Lightman and Professor Krishna Chatterjee, have recently been elected as new Fellows of the Royal Society for their outstanding contributions to science.

The Fellowship of the Royal Society is made up of the most eminent scientists, engineers and technologists from, or living and working in, the UK or the Commonwealth. On 5 May 2017, 50 distinguished scientists were chosen as Fellows of the Royal Society and 10 as new Foreign Members. Amongst them were Stafford Lightman, from the University of Bristol, and Krishna Chatterjee, from the University of Cambridge.

Professor Lightman was elected for his work on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, which has fundamentally changed our understanding of 24-hour body clock control.

Professor Chatterjee was recognised for his discoveries of genetic disorders of thyroid gland formation, regulation of hormone synthesis and hormone action, which have advanced our knowledge of thyroid function.
