Via jobs.ac.uk. A position of Research Assistant is available at the Institute of Child Health, University College London to study 3D Face Analysis related to Prader-Wili Syndrome (PWS). The successful applicant will join a newly formed group led by Professor Peter Hammond investigating computational models of biomedical systems. The project will use dense surface modelling and pattern recognition techniques to detect differences in development of the face in Prader-Wili Syndrome (PWS) with respect to gender and genetic cause. A second component is to investigate the impact of growth hormone treatment on facial characteristics of PWS and also the degree of effect depending on age of onset and period of growth hormone supplementation. The contribution at ICH will involve modelling and analysis of 3D shape of the face but any new techniques developed are likely to be generic and have application elsewhere. The duties of the post will principally be research orientated. The applicant will need to interact with experts in image analysis and cognitive neuroscience, and there may be opportunities to travel internationally to collect image data and to visit collaborating institutions. Some interaction with patients and their families will be necessary. Applicants must have a first degree or a postgraduate degree in Computer Science or related discipline, with specialist knowledge and expertise in image analysis. Experience in morphometric analysis is not essential but would be an advantage. Candidates must have good organisational skills and be able to communicate effectively and formulate new ideas. The appointee will be expected to present work succinctly to a range of lay, clinical and scientific audiences. The starting salary will be on Grade 6B of the UCL salary scales which ranges from £24,877 to £26,391 per annum depending on skills and experience. London allowance of £2,781 is payable in addition. This post is funded for 12 months.
