A highly qualified and motivated individual with skills and experience in mass spectrometry techniques (LC/MS/MS and GC/MS) and a scientific background in biochemistry is sought by the University of Birmingham. The Steroid Endocrinology Research Group within the Institute of Biomedical Research is world leading in the arena of corticosteroid and androgen metabolism (Prof W Arlt, Prof PM Stewart). The Steroid Research grouping has previously succeeded in identifying novel steroidogenic disorders employing steroid profiling by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry as a discovery tool. The current post is funded by a Biomarker Grant from the Medical Research Council UK for research on "Steroid profiling as a tool in the diagnosis and monitoring of adrenal tumours". Candidates will hold a first degree in area of specialism undergoing PhD and possess sufficient breadth and depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline and or research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes.
