A three-year Research Fellowship is available within the Centre of Neuroendocrinology, Department of Physiology, University of Otago School of Medical Sciences, New Zealand. This post would suit a post doctoral researcher with experience in transgenic technology and immunohistochemistry in neuroscience. Studies in the laboratory use molecular, cellular and whole animal approaches to understand the non-classical actions estrogen on signaling system in neurons. This research project will explore the mechanism and the role of non-classical estrogen actions on intracellular signaling system in GnRH neurons in vivo and in vitro on acute brain slice preparations. Studies will also involve undertaking in vivo experiments using a novel inducible transgenic mouse line that cAMP responsive element binding protein will be selectively knock out in gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons. The laboratory is well equipped for immunohistochemistry, PCR, single molecule detection microscopy, small animal surgery, calcium imaging with confocal calcium imaging rigs. All applicants should hold a PhD or other relevant research qualification, a record of ongoing publication of research in peer-reviewed journals including some as primary author, and evidence of successful planning, supervision and conducting of research.
